Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transport and former governor of the state of Rivers, said that he would refuse any pension offering if offered by the state government.
He said this on Twitter after being declared unconstitutional by a Federal High Court in Lagos to keep receiving emoluments from their states former governors holding public offices.
He said, “I have never asked the government of the River State for or received a kobo as a pension.
“If offered, I will politely decline and request that the money should be given to Rivers State pensioners.
“I do not believe that I should receive pension as ex-governor while serving as a minister.”
On Wednesday, the Federal High Court in Lagos ruled the custom of former governors, now federal lawmakers and ministers, to still collect pensions from their states in their previous capacity to be unconstitutional.
