Senator Hope Uzodinma has been awarded his Certificate of Return as Governor of Imo State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Uzodinma issued the certificate on Wednesday, according to Channel TV, after the Supreme Court on Tuesday annulled Emeka Ihedioha’s election as the state governor.
In a unanimous judgment on Tuesday the Supreme Court dismissed Emeka Ihedioha as State Governor and proclaimed Hope Uzodinma winner.
This directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to withdraw the return certificate from former governor, Emeka Ihedioha, and issue the return certificate to Uzodinma as the state governor.
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, in delivering the judgment, declared that the votes from 318 polling units belonging to Uzodinma and APC were wrongly omitted and should be included.
