Aisha also used her husband’s name of General Muhammadu Buhari.
In a Monday night tweet, the First Lady said to MY incorruptible GMB, “Happy Birthday.
“I wish you Allah’s Guidance Protection and Good Health to continue steering the affairs of our dear nation.
Long Live GMB. Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria !”
Punch said it would “hereafter prefix the name of Buhari with his rank as a military dictator in the’ 80s’ Major General’ and refer to his government as a dictatorship before they purged themselves of their insufferable disregard for the rule of law.
The newspaper made the decision by referring to DSS failure to comply with court orders on Omoyele Sowore’s case, publisher of SaharaReporters; court invasion and Shiite leader’s trial, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, among others.
Punch said his decision reflects his opposition under Buhari’s government against autocracy and oppression in the military style.
The decision of the newspaper has since created much controversy among Nigerians.
