Nigeria’s Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) has adopted Governor Yahaya Bello as its candidate for the state’s November 16 governorship election, saying that it gives free operation to Fulani herdsmen.
The group’s National Organizing Secretary, Aliyu Saleh, who made the statement on Saturday at a news conference in Lokoja, directed Fulani in the state to embark on the Bello re-election campaign “Ruga-to-Ruga” immediately.
Saleh said the group decided to support the governor in providing Fulani with a secure environment to operate in the state.
“We are also supporting the governor for approving free contagious
bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) vaccination for over 23,000 cows
belonging to our members in the state,” he said.
The group also commended Bello for implementing measures that had resulted in reduced clashes in the state between farmers and herders.
It also stated that the governor gave its members a sense of belonging by appointing one of them to his cabinet and making their leaders members of the traditional councils at the level of state and local government.
The National Organizing Secretary, flanked by MACBAN State Chairman Umaru Jaido, added they decided to endorse Bello because of their love of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abubakar Ohere, who on behalf of the Governor received the endorsement document, thanked the group for accepting Bello as their candidate.
