After initially issuing a statement asserting her compliance with the law as a minister and participant in the mandatory one-year national youth service, Hannatu Musa Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, has disavowed the earlier statement.

A brief announcement from Suleiman Haruna, the Deputy Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, declared that the Minister had not endorsed any such statement. Initially, Minister Musawa had referenced a 2021 Federal High Court case in which it was ruled that holding a first-degree or NYSC certificate wasn’t mandatory for ministerial appointments.

She defended her personal commitment to the NYSC program but received criticism.

A subsequent statement attributed to her, but clarified by Haruna, disassociated her from the earlier remarks, emphasizing that she had not officially commented on the NYSC issue and urged caution regarding unverified information.

She expressed gratitude for Nigerians’ support and understanding. In her words,

“For clarity, I wish to state that I have not issued any statement on the current issue.
