Senator Jimoh Ibrahim Advises Governor Akeredolu to Prioritize Rest, Delay Return

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has received counsel from Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, urging him not to rush his return to the country from his medical leave abroad.

During a telephone conversation over the weekend, Senator Ibrahim, who represents the Ondo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, advised Governor Akeredolu to cancel his return flight and take additional time to relax before resuming his official duties.

Akeredolu, who embarked on a 21-day medical leave abroad a few days ago, had initially planned to return home on July 6, 2023, as communicated in a letter to the Ondo State House of Assembly.

Senator Ibrahim highlighted the constitutional provision that allows the governor to delegate authority to his deputy during his absence, citing the extended medical vacation taken by former President Muhammadu Buhari, which lasted nearly six months.

In urging Akeredolu to prioritize his recovery, the business mogul expressed, “Your Excellency, Arakunrin, it is crucial for you to cancel your return ticket and enjoy a sufficient holiday. You need ample time to rest and fully recuperate before resuming your duties.”

He further emphasized that Governor Akeredolu is not a machine and deserves an extended period of rest after tirelessly serving the state for the past seven years. Senator Ibrahim reassured the governor that the government of Ondo State will continue to function effectively in his absence, eliminating the need for him to hurriedly return.
