Many people are currently trapped after a four-storey building collapsed at Life Camp, Jabi, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The collapse of the building took place around 4:00 pm on Monday, July 3, 2023, while construction workers were carrying out their work.

The building, which was intended for hotel accommodation, it was learnt, gave way unexpectedly, trapping several workers who were on-site at the time of the collapse.

Eyewitnesses stated that the building collapsed during the casting work, shortly after the engineer had left the site.

Located in the swampy area of Dape near Berger Clinic, the building’s collapse was attributed to the use of substandard materials, as per eyewitness accounts.

Rescue operations are reportedly underway, but this newspaper learnt that there is a lack of equipment on the scene as of press time.

The rescue team, comprising officials from FCT Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Nigerian police, are on the ground.
