Nigeria Is In Big Mess Coupled With Poor Governance – VP, Shettima Admits

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, openly acknowledged the challenging state of affairs in the country, attributing it to a significant breakdown in governance.

Speaking during a meeting with the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, headed by Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, at the State House in Abuja on Monday, Shettima expressed a sense of hope that Bola Tinubu, his principal, would address these issues.

He urged the committee to formulate a comprehensive strategy aimed at revitalizing the economy and extricating the nation from its current difficulties. Shettima, a former governor of Borno State, emphasized the potency of fiscal policy and tax reforms as effective means of mobilizing resources. He implored the committee to generate recommendations that could be swiftly implemented, considering the existing economic realities.

Shettima stressed the enormity of the task at hand, acknowledging the committee’s potential to develop a robust roadmap that would reposition the nation’s economy. He underscored the pivotal role that fiscal and tax policies play in a country’s economic advancement. Despite the country’s complex challenges stemming from inadequate governance and various obstacles, Shettima expressed confidence in Bola Tinubu’s leadership and principles, describing him as a progressive figure in Nigerian politics.

Assuring the committee of support from the National Economic Council, which he presides over, Shettima urged a strong emphasis on domestic resource mobilization, particularly given the current global trends.

He highlighted the significance of fiscal policy and tax reforms in achieving national aspirations, a concept that resonates on a global scale, evident in the rise of groups like BRICS and other geopolitical alliances.

Furthermore, Shettima conveyed his trust in the committee’s capabilities, commending its composition as a testament to the president’s dedication to the committee’s mission. He expressed pride in the committee members, several of whom he personally knows, citing their unblemished characters, high integrity, and unwavering patriotism.
